According to PricewaterhouseCoopers, in its 2013-2017 Global Entertainment and Media Outlook report, the creation of television programs and motion pictures is one of the nations most vital and valuable resources. Worldwide it is a trillion-dollar industry. The US trade surplus revenues continue to grow. In 2005 the trade surplus was $9.5 billion. In 2008 it went up to $11.7 billion and in 2011 to $14.3 (latest data available).
For years, the Texas film community has been buzzing about getting incentives in place to entice studios to bring film projects to Texas so Texans with skills in the industry can work in production. Decades have gone by and government incentives enticing enough to bring a steady stream of year round productions to keep Texans working have not happened. We are not going to wake up one day and magically because we desire it, have great incentives and studios flocking to Texas to form a year round film industry. As Texans who have a passion to be in the television and film industry without leaving Texas, we have to strategically work towards that end by thinking out of the box. The Texas production community must formally come together and create synergy that will get us on track to establish a viable industry without depending on government created incentives. We must create own plan.
El Mundo Productions, LLC was established in 2000 in order to study the entertainment industy through full immersion and learn how the television and film industry functions from the creation of a television show concept to developing it to the point where it can be distributed around the world to create long-term revenue and catapult actors into stardom. After many years of research and development, a viable strategic plan is being rolled out to create long term jobs in Texas. MindFruit and the Internet Television Association of America are two of the components of the long-term plan.
MindFruit, “the meet-up space for video arts creation”, is a mastermind alliance start-up organization in San Antonio which will provide a place accessible 24/7 for the those who are in, or desire to be in the industry as creative writers, producers, talent and crew to come together to train, network and mentor each other. The Television Association America (itvaa) is an alliance of individuals, merchants and corporations who have an interest in strengthening the Texas economy by supporting a strategic plan to sustain a solid year round production industry that will create opportunities in Texas. In San Antonio, those who become members of MindFruit, automatically are members of itvaa.
The fundamental strength of the entertainment industry if used correctly is Economic development for the community. Economic development is "a multidimensional process involving working towards changes in structures, institutions, and attitudes, as well as the acceleration of economic growth, the reduction of inequality, and the eradication of absolute poverty".
From a policy perspective, economic development can be defined as "efforts that seek to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for our community by creating or retaining jobs and supporting or growing incomes and the tax base." And the entertainment industry can be a great tool to create and retain jobs as well as to grow incomes and the tax base.
Our efforts with MindFruit and the Internet Television Association America are just that. We are seeking to improve the economic well being and quality of life for our community by bringing together the Texas entertainment community to to build the momentum to create a sustainable year-round production industry. Through training talent and crew and creating jobs in Texas in front of and behind the scenes we begin on the path to creating long-term economic growth in the lucrative entertainment industry. And we can begin providing opportunities for those passionate about being a part of the entertainment industry instead of giving them no choice but to leave Texas to build their careers. By rolling out our strategic plan, we can accelerate economic growth, reduce diversity inequality in American television and film, and be a part of reducing poverty in Texas.
The U.S. entertainment and media market generated $479.23 billion in 2012, representing 29.2 percent of the worldwide revenue of nearly $1.639 trillion. In 2017, the U.S. is expected to account for $632.09 billion, or 29.4 percent of the worldwide total of more than $2.152 trillion, according to the report.
These numbers are good news as it shows us there are plenty of opportunities to tap into this “cash cow. Through years of research, the El Mundo Productions, LLC strategic plan has been designed to tap into this cash flow and bring job on a permanent basis to the people residing in Texas.
The economic impact of the Television Production & Motion Picture Industry has helped cities like Los Angeles and New York thrive. Historically the industry has been monopolized by these two cities. However, in the last decade their infrastructure has begun to break down, as producers are moving their projects to other states and countries which provide financial incentives.
With the invention of the Internet and the high cost of producing in those two entertainment hubs, the corrosion of the industry in these cities will continue. The Internet still a rather new frontier for video distribution and still in its infancy has opened wide an opportunity which if leveraged strategically can help other cities flourish in this trillion-dollar industry.
El Mundo Productions, LLC is rolling out the strategic plan to develop an industry which will create long-term, year-round jobs and build careers in entertainment with an emphasis on internet video series as the basis to create a cash flow to fund film in the future.
We will provide opportunities to talent through volunteering, networking, educational and hands-on skill training opportunities, with the number one goal to establish a foundation to create year round jobs in front of and behind the camera. In addition, we will create business opportunities for those small businesses and corporations who have goods and services to provide to a budding industry.
